Privacy policy

No accounts, no ads, nothing sold

There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log into. We run no advertising, and we do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone. The one piece of personal data we hold is a phone number you may choose to give us for WhatsApp alerts — described below.

The WhatsApp alerts waitlist

Daily rate alerts on WhatsApp are coming. If you leave your mobile number in the “Notify me” form, here is exactly what happens to it:

• What we store: the 10-digit number, the market you were viewing when you submitted (so the launch message can lead with your city), and when you submitted.
• What it is used for: egg-rate alerts on WhatsApp — one message when the service launches, then daily rates only if you opt in at that point. Nothing else.
• What it is never used for: it is not sold, shared, or used for any marketing beyond the alerts you asked about.
• Removal: email admin@indiaeggrate.today with the number and we delete it, or reply STOP to any message we send.

“Use my location”

The location button on the homepage asks your browser for your position and compares it, on your device, against our list of 34 market coordinates to pick the nearest one. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers and never stored — only the chosen market’s name is remembered, locally in your browser. Declining the browser prompt changes nothing; you can pick a city by hand.

Analytics

We use PostHog to count how many people visit, which markets they look at, and whether anything is broken. We want to know that Barwala gets read more than Brahmapur — not who read it.

How it is configured:

• No user profiles. PostHog is set to identified_only, and because nobody can log in, no profile is ever built for you.
• Served from our own domain. Analytics requests go to indiaeggrate.today/ingest rather than a third-party tracker domain.
• Cookies. PostHog sets a cookie to tell a returning visit apart from a new one, so our visitor counts are not nonsense. It holds a random identifier — not your name, email or phone number, none of which we have.
• Respects Do Not Track and works fine if you block it. Blocking analytics does not degrade the site in any way.
• Session recordings. PostHog records how pages are used — scrolling, taps, which chart range you pick — and replays it to us as a reconstruction of the page. It is how we find out that something is confusing rather than just that people left. It is not video, and it does not use your camera or microphone.

Your phone number is excluded from those recordings. The WhatsApp waitlist field is marked so its contents are never captured — if you type a number and change your mind, there is no recording of it anywhere. Numbers you actually submit are covered in the WhatsApp alerts waitlist above.

PostHog processes this data on our behalf, on servers in the United States.

What is stored in your browser

Your theme preference (light or dark) and your chosen market, kept in your browser’s local storage so your next visit opens on the right colours and the right city. Neither leaves your device. Clearing your browser data removes both.

As we add conveniences like remembering your preferred unit or your pinned markets, those will be stored the same way — locally, on your device.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard request logs — IP address, browser type, the page requested, and a timestamp — for operational and security purposes. This is ordinary web-server behaviour and applies to every site you visit. We do not use those logs to identify individuals.

Third parties

Egg prices come from NECC via e2necc.com, but that is a request we make from our own servers — your browser never contacts them. No fonts or images are loaded from third-party domains. The only third party your browser interacts with is PostHog, and that goes through our own domain as described above.

Children

This is a commodity price reference and is not directed at children.

Opting out

Any tracker blocker, or your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting, will stop analytics entirely. Nothing on this site depends on it — every rate, chart and page works identically either way.

If this changes

If we later add advertising, this page will be updated before it goes live, and it will name what was added rather than pointing you at a generic policy. That is how this page came to describe PostHog: it was written when we ran nothing at all, and updated in the same change that switched analytics on.
