Egg rate in India, 2009 to today
In 2009, a published NECC egg rate averaged ₹2.26 per egg. Today — the national average on 6 August 2026 — it is ₹5.46. That is 2.4× in rupees.
But rupees themselves changed. Restated in 2025 rupees, the 2009 egg cost about ₹5.90 — so in real terms today's egg costs almost exactly what it did then. 17 years of feed inflation, freight and demand growth, and the egg has barely moved against the price of everything else.

Method
Each year’s figure is an unweighted mean of every published NECC market-day rate in our archive for that calendar year — 1,99,136 rows since February 2009, historic markets included. The market set changed over the years, so this is “what a published NECC rate averaged”, not a fixed panel. NECC rates are suggested wholesale references, not fixed or retail prices.
The inflation column restates each year in 2025 rupees using the World Bank consumer price index for India (2010 = 100), annual averages. Years after 2025 are shown unadjusted.
